The lifting, transport and marine services company’s Tiong Woon Oil & Gas Services division will build a 146.3m derrick barge for Norce Offshore. The pipelay vessel will have a gross weight of around 25,100t and will be equipped with 7,025kW generators, a 1,100t marine crane and pipelay equipment capable of working to depths of 200m. It will handle pipes ip to 48in in diameter.

The deal is significant for TWC, as it marks the company’s expansion into a wholly new sector, vessel and platform fabrication. The Bintan yard was bought in November 2006, with this expansion in mind. Ang Kah Hong, TWC group chairman and managing director, said, “It is a good start. We are glad for the opportunity and we will focus on doing this job well. This win positions us well for future contracts as we start to build a track record.”
