Unedited press release: Crane operators who are working to earn OSHA-recognised certification can now find out whether they passed the required practical exam within hours of taking the test.
To become certified in the United States, a crane operator must pass both a written exam that tests his or her knowledge and a practical exam that tests his or her basic skill at running a crane.
Certification is important because OSHA says that an operator must be certified in order to run a crane that is working in construction and can lift 2,000 pounds or more.
Crane Institute Certification (CIC) is one of just a few entities that is accredited by ANSI/ANAB to give the written and practical exams, then issue an OSHA-recognized certification to operators who pass both tests.
CIC’s new Computer Auto Scoring system calculates an operator’s score on the practical exam and can tell him or her within hours whether they have passed.
