Gino had a long association with the crane and special transport industries, including working with Dutch firms Zwagerman, Projector Transport Service, Peinemann and Mammoet Europe. He wrote for magazines in both the crane and transport industries, and used his knowledge and experience to give presentations around the world.
He was a central figure in establishing the ESTA Awards, and presented them, most recently at the Intermat trade show in Paris at the end of April.
Gino was a valued contact for Cranes Today on many issues, and was always a welcoming face at trade shows and events.
Christian-Jacques Vernazza, chairman of ESTA, said: “Gino always thought in challenges, not in problems.
“For some of us he was not only a colleague but also a friend, tutor or sometimes even a mentor. He was passionate about his profession, our industry, and strove to bring it to new developments, innovation and sharing knowledge within the international world of cranes and transport.
“He could put this effort in to real action and powerful words which have been published several times. He did this not only as a safety manager for Mammoet but also as general secretary of ESTA.
“I think that we as the ESTA team will miss him very much.”
